The 12 Best LEGO Spider-Man Sets, Ranked

LEGO

Spider-Man is one of the world’s most recognizable and beloved heroes, so it should come as no surprise that he’s got some amazing LEGO sets to his acclaim. Today, in honor of Spider-Man: No Way Home premiering this week, I’ll be taking a walk down memory lane as I rank the best 12 LEGO Spider-Man sets of all-time.

For some ground rules: I will only be listing LEGO sets that are solely based on Spider-Man, not Marvel sets in which Spider-Man appears—such as Avengers: Infinity War or Captain America: Civil War.

12. Spider-Man Action Studio

Release Year: 2002

Did you know Spider-Man was the first superhero ever to be made as a LEGO minifigure? He debuted in 2002 under the LEGO Studios theme, which was a theme dedicated to helping young builders make their own LEGO animation films. There was even a LEGO-branded camera in one of the larger sets! In any case, this was the first LEGO set to include Spidey, and while it isn’t the best set ever, it certainly deserves a spot on this list. Without it, who knows if we’d have any of the others that came after it!

11. Doc Ock's Bank Robbery

Release Year: 2004

My dad bought me this set in the summer of 2004 before a family camping trip. We had a car ride that lasted over an hour, and it felt like torture to hold this box in my hand for that long without being able to open it and build it. That heavy nostalgia earns this set some points, but on top of that, it’s a great set that included some awesome minifigs and some fun playability for a $20 set in 2004. Good luck finding it anywhere these days, my search came up empty.

10. Spider-Man: Far From Home - Molten Man Battle

Release Year: 2019

I feel like this is a set that some people might not put on their list, but I loved the translucent orange pieces, the “Night Monkey” Spider-Man minifig, and of course, that amazing Firefighter minifig.

I’m kidding, of course! There was a meme around this set when it released because of how goofy it was to have a firefighter included against a literal walking monster made of molten lava. It’s still pretty funny, come to think of it.

9. Spider-Man: Ghost Rider Team-Up

LEGO

Release Year: 2016

The LEGO Spider-Man sets have been a great way for LEGO to include some more B-level characters into a mainstream set. This set did that with two characters: Hobgoblin and Ghost Rider. It was awesome to get Ghost Rider and his massive motorcycle as well as Hobgoblin on his perfectly-scaled glider build. I have always assumed that the LEGO designers took inspiration from Todd McFarlane’s Spider-Man run for this set, as the early issues of that run had Spidey and Ghost Rider teaming up to take down Hobgoblin, but those comics were so gore ridden and scary that I can’t imagine LEGO green lighting a direct adaptation of anything from those stories. It’s conspiracies like this that keep me up at night, folks…

8. Spider-Man: Venomosaurus Ambush

Release Year: 2020

Who wouldn’t want a giant, venomized T-Rex for their LEGO collection? Pair that awesomeness with the debut of the LEGO Spider-Ham minifig, and this set easily earns it’s rank on this list.

7. The Final Showdown

Release Year: 2003

“We are who we choose to be, NOW CHOOSE!”

The Green Goblin’s immortal words ring in my head over 20 years later, and this LEGO set allowed me as a kid (and now again as an adult) to recreate that pivotal scene from 2002’s Spider-Man film. It’s actually rather violent to think that LEGO included the trolley car the Green Goblin almost dropped into the river, but it’s pretty rad that the LEGO version is on a string that can be moved from side to side with an innovative gear turning feature.

6. Spider-Man’s Train Rescue

Rescue Year: 2004

It’s hard to think of a more iconic Spidey scene than the Doc Ock vs. Spider-Man train battle from Spider-Man 2. From Doc Ock pushing aside the passengers inside the train to Spider-Man stopping the train with his webbing and super strength, this LEGO set brings to life the nostalgia of that scene and lets you recreate the adventure for yourself.

5. Doc Ock’s Hideout

Release Year: 2004

Spider-Man 2 is one of the best superhero movies of all-time, and the final fight between Spider-Man and Doc Ock brings a tear to my eye almost every time I watch the movie. This LEGO set was so far ahead of its time with detail and playability, not to mention the fact that it came with literally every main character from the movie. What a great set!

4. The Origins

LEGO

Release Year: 2003

This set lives uniquely among all LEGO sets, not only because of it’s heavy nostalgia factor, but also for the fact that it represents two separate locations in one set—something that I cannot think of another example of. The set is based off of the 2002 Tobey Maguire Spider-Man film, and its first location is the spider lab where Peter Parker gets bit by the radioactive spider. The second location is Norman Osborn’s lab where his transformation into the Green Goblin takes place. Two iconic scenes memorialized forever as LEGO builds in the same set; of course this one made the list!

3. Far From Home: Hydro-Man Attack

Release Year: 2019

As made evident on this list, I am a sucker for location-based playsets rather than vehicles. Bearing that in mind, I loved this Venetian bridge battle scene pulled right from the silver screen of Spider-Man: Far From Home. I loved the Peter Parker minifigure—mid-transformation into his Spidey outfit—as well as Mysterio, Hydro-Man and MJ to round things out. What a great, atmospheric set!

2. Spider-Man: Web Warriors Ultimate Bridge Battle

Release Year: 2016

Some of Spider-Man’s best battles in the comics, games, and on the big screen take place on New York City’s bridges. This set brings all of the aesthetics of those memorable fights to life in its own unique way. The set included seven minifigs, four of which are exclusive to this set, making it one of the most desirable Spider-Man sets to date. Who wouldn’t want the classic Green Goblin, Scarlet Spider, and Kraven the Hunter for their collection? That's not to mention the 1,000+ piece bridge build.

Honorable Mention: Avengers: Infinity War - Sanctum Sanctorum Showdown

A1ErMe 6axL. AC SL1500
LEGO

Release Year: 2018

This set included the exclusive Iron Spider minifigure, however, it was an Avengers set, so I didn’t feel right formally including it on this list. This set was so amazing that it deserved to be recognized, though! It came with five minifigs, all but one of which were exclusive, and came with an immaculately-built street scene of Doctor Strange’s Sanctum Sanctorum, Peter Parker’s NYC apartment, and a neat little pizza shop. “Pizza Time,” anyone?

1. The Daily Bugle

Release Year: 2021

25 minifigures, 3,772 pieces, 33” tall, and whole lot of fun. This set is truly one of the best LEGO sets ever, let alone the best LEGO Spider-Man set ever. It’s jam-packed with references to Spider-Man movies, cartoons, comics, and video games, and comes with nearly every iconic villain that our favorite web-head has ever faced. If there were only to be one set on this list that you buy, this should be it!
