Apple unleashed a one-two punch of streaming services during a far-too-long Apple event inside the Steve Jobs Theater in Cupertino, California, on March 25.

After warming up the crowd with Apple News+ (a magazine and newspaper subscription service) and Apple Card (a credit card in digital and physical form), the tech giant hit us with game streaming service Apple Arcade and the long-rumored television/film streaming service Apple TV+.

Apple TV+

Apple TV+ is a new ad-free subscription service, arriving this fall, for original shows and movies that will be part of the redesigned Apple TV app, which will continue to offer hundreds of thousands of existing movies and TV shows.

“Apple TV+ looks incredible,” Apple CEO Tim Cook said. “This is just a sneak peek, the beginning of something truly exciting.”

  • Apple TV+ price will be announced this fall.
  • Apple TV+ will be available in the updated Apple TV app on iPhone, iPad and Apple TV.  The new Apple TV app will be available as a software update in May and it will come to Mac for the first time this fall.
  • The Apple TV app will be available on Samsung smart TVs this spring and on Amazon Fire TV, LG, Roku, Sony and Vizio platforms at a yet-to-be-decided date.
  • Apple TV will offer “channels” à la carte with no additional apps, accounts or passwords required. Channels include HBO, Starz, Showtime, CBS All Access, Smithsonian Channel, Epix and more.

To help introduce Apple TV+’s upcoming content, Cook brought out famous friends Oprah Winfrey, Steven Spielberg, Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Aniston, Steve Carell, Jason Momoa, Alfre Woodard, J.J. Abrams and Sara Bareilles.

Apple Arcade

Apple Arcade is the “first game subscription service for mobile, desktop and living room.” The announcement comes just one week after Google unveiled game streaming service Stadia. Here’s what Arcade will offer gamers:

  • Apple Arcade will launch this fall with more than 100 new and exclusive games, including originals from creators Hironobu Sakaguchi, Ken Wong and Will Wright.
  • Every game will be playable offline and online.
  • Players will be able to play on iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple TV; players can switch off on devices and still pick up where they left off on any game.
  • Apple Arcade games will not have any ads, ad tracking or additional purchases.
  • Apple Arcade will supplement the 300,000 games already in the App Store.
