The Game Awards 2021: The Best Trailers You Need to See

Asymmetrical multiplayer horror games have become all the rage these days. And they'll continue to be a huge hit now that we're going to get one for The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. The original 1974 horror film of the same name starring Leatherface is finally getting a video game adaptation. We can't wait to terrorize folks with the crazed chainsaw wielder horror fans know all too well.

As far as new IPs go, Evil West ended up being one of the more interesting reveals of the show. Traversing the Wild West and wiping out legions of vampires sounds like a good time to us. And everything we've seen from this trailer has us ready to punch and blast supernatural baddies with a fellow vampire hunter in tow. Evil West has "sleeper hit" written all over it.

Seeing as how Senua's Saga: Hellblade II hit The Game Awards stage in 2019 with a cinematic trailer, it's only right that it returned with some actual gameplay this time around. Ninja Theory is truly outdoing itself with this upcoming sequel. The scale looks off the charts, the graphics look even more lifelike than ever before, and the first game's focus on presenting mental health issues in a unique way has been kept intact. Games like this are the reason why you need to cop an Xbox Series X/S.

THE RUMORS WERE TRUE! So this is the Star Wars game that's been said to be in development by developer Quantic Dream (Heavy Rain, Detroit: Become Human). Star Wars Eclipse is an upcoming action/adventure game that will feature Quantic Dream's focus on major decisions playing a major part in how the narrative unfolds. The fact that this game is set in an uncharted region of the Outer Rim during The High Republic era (which marks the golden age of the celebrated Jedi) has us even more keen on what it has to offer.

After playing the final piece of story DLC in Control, it became quite evident that Alan Wake's time hasn't come to an end. All the props in the world go to developer Remedy Entertainment for their unveiling of a sequel fans have been clamoring for. Alan Wake II is going all in on survival horror, which has us super excited to dive into the night terrors awaiting us. We're getting serious The Evil Within vibes from this one.

So check this out - developer Monolith Productions (Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War) is working on a Wonder Woman game. And the part that has us so ready to get our hands on it is its usage of the revolutionary "Nemesis System," which means our foes and friends won't forget a single thing we do. It's about time Diana of Themyscira got her own AAA game! Ares, Cheetah, and Circe are going to catch all these hands when this game finally comes out.

We totally forgot about this! So imagine our surprise when a catchy musical number led right into this reveal trailer for Cuphead's long-in-development DLC. This highly inventive trailer was an amazing presentation that caught us and everyone else's attention the entire way through. Cuphead, Mugman, and their new partner Ms. Chalice have a bunch of new bosses to contend with. And we're ready to get extremely frustrated and overjoyed at the same time with our couch co-op buddies while we try to defeat them.

Captain Boomerang, Deadshot, Harley Quinn, and King Shark have one of the toughest tasks in the DC Universe - eliminate the Justice League. We finally got to see some actual gameplay from Rocksteady Studios' first non-Batman-related experience and it looks awesome. The footage we caught from this trailer made us pony up our pre-order money with the quickness! The chaotic gunplay, awesome sense of platforming freedom, and a strong sense of humor all add up to a DC game that will surely be a hit next year.

The more we see Forspoken, the more excited we get. It's a graphical powerhouse that looks like it's taking full advantage of the PS5 current-gen hardware. Taking control of Frey Holland looks like it's going to be an absolute joy thanks to her incredible magic spell prowess and highly nimble abilities for midair exploration. Forspoken has all the markings of a mega-franchise for Square Enix in the making.

One of the most slept-on action/adventure games of the PS3/Xbox 360 generation was the very first Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine. It was a straightforward yet highly entertaining power fantasy romp that let players blast and hack hordes of vicious Orks. We never thought it would actually get a sequel...but here we are! This unexpected follow-up marks the return of Captain Titus and his fellow Space Marines as they step up to eradicate the overwhelming Tyranid hordes.

Horizon Forbidden West is really looking like it's going to run away with all the biggest achievements at The Game Awards next year. This new piece of gameplay footage just further proves how hard developer Guerrilla Games is working to make sure Aloy's next adventure is a PS5 classic. That red suit she's rocking will be all ours in February! We can't wait to take down and tame some new mechanical animals, bruh.

Amicia and Hugo clearly went through a lot in A Plague Tale: Innocence. But now they'll be forced to fight for their lives in a locale full of new human and otherworldly threats. Far away from their homeland, the sibling duo now has an entirely new realm to explore. And damn does that new realm look gorgeous! But man, those rats are back. Our skin's going to crawl even harder now that their AI behavior is getting powered by current-gen hardware...

Knuckles. Sounds. Perfect! That's the main aspect of this debut movie trailer that put a giant smile on our faces. Idris Elba is going to do an awesome job with this voice acting role. As for the rest of the footage shown from Sonic the Hedgehog 2, it was equally hype. Jim Carrey's sporting that sick Dr. Robotnik mustache, Tails is making his debut with his signature plane in tow, and the Chaos Emerald is at the heart of the film's story. Could this actually be the greatest video game movie of all time? Seeing as how there isn't much competition in that genre of films, it could easily earn that high distinction.

They got the suit right! As soon as we spotted that scene of Master Chief donning his Spartan armor, we gained a bunch more trust and respect for Paramount+'s live-action Halo adaptation. The UNSC/Covenant war will look and sound breathtaking as evidenced by the debut trailer that came across our screens. We can't wait to see Master Chief put in work on those Covenant bastards with an Energy Sword!

Former EA and Dice head Patrick Söderlund is leading a new development team by the name of Embark Studios. And their very first project looks to be a breakout smash hit in the making. ARC Raiders is a free-to-play, cooperative third-person shooter that pits humans against giant robots. That premise already has us ready to pull up with some fellow Raiders to shoot down those mechanical invaders from space. Now we can't wait to join the resistance!
