We are now in an unprecedented era of female rap domination. While women have always been an iconic part of the rap game, this is the first time that we have seen so many female rappers absolutely ruling the charts. Included in that list is Rubi Rose.

Following recent collaborations with Wiz Khalifa and K Camp to name a few, Rose is about to have the music game on lock. The artist spoke with ONE37pm’s Mike Boyd as a part of his Monday to Monday spotlight series, talking all about her musical success so far, and what we can expect from her in the future.

Known for her catchy lyrics, Rose has been known to use her voice as an instrument. With the ability to play on words and use clever puns, the artist struck gold with her 2019 smash ‘Big Mouth,’ Since then, her star has continued to rise with massive streaming numbers and a big following to match (2 million on Instagram alone). Her rise to fame is certainly of no surprise to those who have been there since the beginning. Simply put, Rubi Rose was born with it.

“Growing up my parents would always play music around the house. They played Prince, Michael Jackson, etc., so that’s where my passion came from. In high school/college I was DJing and from there I just kept going. When I released ‘Big Mouth,’ L.A. Reid heard it, and I got signed off that song. That’s when I knew I could take it seriously.”

Inspired by the likes of Nicki Minaj, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, and more, Rose made it a point to not study their music, but their showmanship as well.

“Yeah I was definitely inspired by Nicki, Britney, Christina, etc. All the pop girls too. I liked their aesthetic, how they dressed, and everything else.”

Now a musician herself, Rose exudes those same qualities of being the “total package” as an artist, creating songs that resonate and connect to all the different layers of life. Her recent hit ‘He in His Feelings’ is one of the songs that she is the most proud of. To date, the single has amassed over one million streams, with the video notching over 3 million views on YouTube.

That song was me telling a story of what was going on in my life and with my significant other at that time. It’s actually one of my favorites so far.

In her short career, the young rapper has already received a lot of love and praise from her industry peers. In fact, Cardi B told Rose that she has a special it-factor. Rose most recently worked with Cardi and Megan The Stallion on the music video for their smash record ‘WAP’ where she was featured.

Cardi’s people hit up my people. We did the video and it was lit! Cardi B was very nice and very welcoming. She told me that I have that it-factor.

When asked to describe how she feels about her recent career trajectory, her the answer was simple. If you are a good person to others, then positive things will naturally come your direction. It’s one of the oldest rules in the book.

“Be a good person and good things will come to you. I would like to think that I have good energy, and that’s the reason for good things coming my way. I have made it a point to build my stuff organically. You know I get so much hate, but to have people that I admire and respect giving me my flowers. It means a lot.”

Action reaction, cause and effect. With 2020 rounding out, Rose has her sights set on a big 2021.

2021—I’m ready to mess it up! I’m gonna kick it up. I’m ready to put out an album, the visuals, the tour, all of it!
