Established Sound Engineer and CEO Cruz Chats With ONE37pm

Cruz is an accomplished engineer whose professional career has spanned close to a decade, working with many well-known artists including: J Cole, DJ Khaled, and Meek Mill amongst others. With Meek Mill in particular, Cruz has become a trusted part of the artist’s inner circle, helping him to discover his musical sound and style. Cruz approaches each project with a certain hunger and tenacity. Catching up with ONE37pm’s Mike Boyd as a part of his Monday to Monday series, Cruz talked about his latest musical efforts. Below is a snippet of their interview.

Boyd: I want to hear your story a little bit. How did you get introduced to engineering? What was the first moment where you were like this is for me?

Cruz: The first moment was basically when I was on the come up producing. I started off with the love of producing hip-hop records, and I would buy production software. I bought a used MP, and I wanted to learn how to create records that were radio quality with some of the homies that I thought were talented locally. I got a cheap version of Pro Tools with the Inbox Mini back in the day, and with the challenge of trying to learn that, I figured out how hard it actually was, how untapped that part of the business is, and how important the engineer’s are. I went full blast on it.
