With the absolute piñata burst that was yesterday's news about Netflix's upcoming series, Wednesday, today was an apt day (a Wednesday) to serve as the exclamation point behind what's shaping up to be quite the hyped-up series with the release of its first trailer.
Everything We Learned from the 'Wednesday' Netflix Trailer
Every New Detail From the ‘Wednesday’ Trailer
Basically, the premise of this series begins with Wednesday Addams getting (presumably) kicked out of her old high school for releasing a slew of piranhas in the school's pool as a way to get back at a bunch of jerky water polo players. Her parents, Morticia and Gomez Addams, have a good feeling about this next school she's heading off to, which they themselves attended back in the day: Evermore Academy.
There, it looks like she's able to (somewhat) blend in more with her peers, becoming involved with fencing, playing the cello, getting a handle on her psychic powers, and you know, killing massive spiders. However, that idyllic life soon becomes what she describes as a "nightmare" as she's thrown into the midst of a local murder mystery case.
What Is 'Wednesday' About?
Directed by Tim Burton, Wednesday will be quite the genre-bender, combining comedy, mystery, and horror all into one series. With Wednesday's dark antics, she can't seem to find the right school to fit into, but in this show, we focus on her time at Nevermore Academy, where she finally feels a little more at home.
Things get pretty complicated, though, as she begins investigating a string of murders that have recently gone down in her town, and that's already on top of the everyday growing pains of being a new student. At the same time, Wednesday decides to dive into her parents' past, going back 25 years to try and figure out a mystery revolving around them.
Who Has Been Cast in 'Wednesday'?
It's the Addams Family, after all, which means we're going to have a massive group of characters. All of the main cast who have been confirmed so far include:
- Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams
- Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia Addams
- Luis Guzmán as Gomez Addams
- Isaac Ordonez as Pugsley Addams
- Jamie McShane as Sheriff Donovan Galpin
- Riki Lindhome as Dr. Valerie Kinbott
- Gwendoline Christie as Larissa Weems
- George Burcea as Lurch
- Murray McArthur as Fabian
- Victor Dorobantu as Thing
As of right now, Netflix is holding the identity of Uncle Fester a secret, as well as Christina Ricci's role in the series (she portrayed Wednesday Addams in the 1991 film, The Addams Family).
What Is the Release Date of ‘Wednesday’?
Currently, there's no set release date for Wednesday, though we know that it's definitely premiering sometime on Netflix in the fall of 2022. However, given that there are only a few months left of the year, the show is bound to release sometime sooner rather than later.
