How UFC Star Jared Gordon Battled His Demons and Won

Jared Gordon has spent the last few weeks enjoying his win over Danny Chavez at UFC Fight Night: Blaydes vs Lewis. He is currently sitting on a two-fight win streak in their featherweight division.

Gordon’s life story is as interesting as they come. It would feel inappropriate to summarize what he has gone through to get to the UFC. After all, this is HIS story.

Gordon has battled some of the nastiest demons that life can present you. Those demons and challenges tower over any fight that he takes in a cage.

“I found a gym in Queens. I joined up, started doing jiu jitsu and boxing. After a couple of months, the coach there was like, “do you want a fight?” I was like, “Yeah, sure.” So within four months of training, I had my first fight. I was 17. I fought a 27-year-old. My parents had to sign a waiver because I wasn’t of age yet. I won. I fell in love with the sport and that was it, I was hooked.

Shortly after that, I got injured. I hurt my neck. I started taking Vicodin, not from a doctor. My friend was selling Vicodin. A couple of weeks went by I was eating 5, 10, 20, 30, 40 Vicodin a day. Then, I found Oxycodin and I started doctor shopping. I had multiple people going to doctors and getting scripts. I had thousands of pills. I was getting arrested a lot. I was getting in a lot of trouble, but I was still fighting. I was 22 years old.”
