RHUDE FW23 Taps Into the Inspiration of Rhuigi Villaseñor's Fire

RHUDE is the place where dreams are made of. Debuting their FW23 show “RHUDE AWAKENING: FUEL MY FIRE” this past weekend, excitement is in the air for what the brand has in store in the coming months. This starting point for their AW 2023 Collection is a tribute to Rhuigi Villaseñor’s upbringing in Southern California, where he often dreamed of a better life as an immigrant—spending days with friends in the back seats of cars eating junk food and buying scratch off tickets in hopes to change his life. This collection is a reflection of and celebration of that journey, a look at the awakening that fueled the fire so to speak.

Set in a gas station, the scene of the show serves as a reimagining of Villaseñor’s youth. Only this time there is a Lamborghini Huracán STO, signifying his manifestation of the American Lifestyle he once could only dream of. The collection also features pieces from Villaseñor’s second collaboration with the luxury car brand. With the term “gas” also being another way to describe something as being “hot” in music and fashion the 2000s, along with concern as to the rise of current gas prices, the pieces in this collection all are social commentary in a way simply suggesting that these are what young people are concerned about and currently wear—after all, he sees fashion as a data log of the now and later.

Bomber jackets, sleeveless shirts, and loose bottoms are among some of the combinations sported during the event. Sleek leather pieces and denim appropriate with the y2k theme and fashion trends of that time can also be found within the show, along with unique and creative staples that have been consistent with Villaseñor's designs in the eight years since their debut.
