Top 3 Sneaker Moments at Coachella

Though the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival is a place for emerging and established artists to flaunt their new tunes, the weekend-long mecca has also become a hotbed of fashion innovation. For weekend one of Coachella, three of your favorite men took to Instagram to debut collaborations with Adidas and Nike.

While '90s-era sneakers are experiencing a major resurgence, Pusha T, Donald Glover and Virgil Abloh used the clout of Coachella and the ubiquitous nature of Instagram to unexpectedly drop their latest collabs. We are here for it. Here’s your weekend sneaker recap:

Rapper Pusha T debuted his Adidas Originals sneakers, the King Push Ozweego, unexpectedly on his personal Instagram account. “Hey guys ??? meet my @coachella friend #NoseCandyMandy,” reads the caption of the photo, which shows the kicks with a Coachella brochure. The sneaker—a bright white mesh upper with rubber gum sole—will be available this summer.

Donald Glover—known onstage as Childish Gambino—is creating a line with Adidas, his first partnership with the three-striped brand that they announced together in September. The shoe appears to be a take on the Adidas “Nizza” silhouette, with a distressed canvas upper, black-piped canvas laces, metal eyelets and a rubber sole.

Instagram user Sean McHugh woke up to a peculiar AirDrop notification during Coachella. Gambino, using the iPhone feature, had popped into fans’ devices, giving them 60 minutes to pick up a new pair of kicks. According to Footwear News, “they were also asked to sign a contract with Adidas, agreeing to wear the shoes, come to the show, and keep them on all weekend.”

Riding the Coachella hype, Virgil Abloh took to Instagram to tease his latest collaboration with Nike Off-White, his streetwear label. Abloh and Nike have created numerous collections in the past to great fanfare.

The sneaker appears to be similar to the Nike Zoom, with magenta-spiked soles and the word shoelaces printed in white on black laces. Off-White’s signature zip tie adorns the sneaker in a grass green color, blending in with Coachella’s lawn. Details on the official release are slim, and we’ll update with further news.
