A First Look at the New Nike Air Max 270 React

The latest addition to the Air Max lineage

Last year, Nike introduced two new models to its robust sneaker lineup: the Nike Air Max 270 and the Nike React. To usher in the summer, the brand is releasing a brand-new silhouette, a merging of those two styles, to unveil the new Nike Air Max 270 React.

The Nike Air Max 270 was the first of its kind. It is known for featuring the first air unit designed specifically for a lifestyle shoe, which is, not to mention, the second-highest air unit at 32 millimeters. Dubbed the 270—as the air unit is visible from 270 degrees of the heel—it puts a nice bounce in your step.

Now on to the Nike React. The React, some say, is Nike’s answer to the very popular Adidas Boost technology. Nike React technology was designed to provide durability and stability. This makes for a runners dream, allowing a lighter and more comfortable return of energy with each step.

Today, we have the new Nike Air Max 270 React. Noted for a smooth transition from heel to forefoot, this is the result of merging the two aforementioned technologies. This creates the floating eye stay aesthetic, says Dylan Raasch, Nike’s Senior Sportswear Design Director. In addition, the no-sew or stitched-on panels of the upper are built with a bar tack technique inspired by the Nike Element React 87.

Nike adds that the lead colorways herald the 100th anniversary of the founding of Bauhaus—a German art school founded by Walter Gropius who envisioned bridging the gap between art and industry by combining crafts and fine arts. By recalling the school’s formal studies of asymmetrical balance, here’s what we get below.
