The 11 Best Anime like 'Tokyo Revengers'

First on the list (in no particular order of love), Erased is a beautifully-written mini-series following the story of Satoru Fujinuma, a struggling manga artist who possesses the ability to go back in time and prevent tragedies from happening. After being wrongly accused of a crime, he uses his power to travel back to his childhood in order to solve a series of murders. Like Tokyo Revengers, it features time travel and a protagonist attempting to change the past to save lives. There’s only one season (13 episodes) so you can bang through it pretty quickly. Highly recommend it.

Re:Zero has an enticing mystery storyline that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Subaru Natsuki, the main character in Re:Zero, is transported to a fantasy world where he discovers he has the ability to return to a specific point in time after dying. He uses this power to protect his friends and unravel the mysteries of the world he's trapped in. Beautiful art and captivating characters.

This cultish sci-fi thriller follows the story of Rintarou Okabe, a self-proclaimed mad scientist who accidentally invents a time machine with a microwave that can send text messages into the past. As Rintaoru delves deeper into the intricacies of time travel, he becomes entangled in a conspiracy that could alter the course of history. Steins;Gate has a big following and is widely regarded as one of the top anime series of all time.

This is kind of a deep cut but I think you’ll like it. Orange is a niche little drama that revolves around Naho Takamiya. Naho receives a letter from her future self, warning her of specific events and urging her to prevent the death of a new transfer student named Kakeru Naruse. As Naho and her friends attempt to change the future, they face various challenges and emotional obstacles. If you like how Tokyo Revengers plays with themes of friendship and time-altering action, Orange is the series for you.

In ReLIFE, a 27-year-old unemployed man named Arata Kaizaki is given the opportunity to participate in an experiment where he takes a pill that makes him look and feel like a 17-year-old. He enrolls in high school and tries to relive his youth while overcoming personal challenges and forming connections with his classmates. Do you believe in second chances? This one hits deep since I’m literally 27 as I write this. Interesting to think about the exploration of one's past to bring about positive change in true Japanese fashion.

This show is legendary!! An OG from the 80s/90s. Banana Fish is a crime thriller set in the streets of New York City. The story revolves around Ash Lynx, a young gang leader, and Eiji Okumura, a Japanese photographer. When Ash discovers a mysterious drug called Banana Fish that has a devastating effect on its users, he becomes entangled in a web of conspiracy and violence. Banana Fish (despite its quirky name) shares similarities with Tokyo Revengers in terms of its dark tone, complex characters, and the exploration of loyalty and friendship amidst a dangerous underworld. Highly recommended for my vintage/throwback/20th-century fanatics.

This one trips me out. Mostly because the alien villain looks wild. In Assassination Classroom, a powerful alien creature threatens to destroy Earth unless a group of students can assassinate him before the deadline. The students must balance studies with their mission to save Earth (in an almost ironic way), learning valuable life lessons along the way. The premise is pretty different from Tokyo Revengers. But both series focus on a group of students facing intense challenges and forming deep bonds while working towards a common goal. Recommended.

Durarara!! (did you also read that screaming in a Japanese accent?) takes place in the bustling Ikebukuro district of Tokyo, where various factions, supernatural beings, and ordinary citizens intertwine. The story follows a large cast of characters and their interconnected lives, filled with mysteries, secrets, and urban legends. Most critics put Durarara!! at the middle of the pack in terms of anime rankings, but it has its own strong fanbase. Like Tokyo Revengers, it delves into the gritty underbelly of a city and explores the complex relationships between its characters. Both series have a strong emphasis on interconnected storylines, suspenseful plot twists, and the exploration of youth subcultures.

Charlotte isn’t as well-known as the other series mentioned so far, but it’s certainly worth mentioning. The show centers around Yuu Otosaka, a high school student with the ability to possess anyone's body for a short period of time. He uses his power to lead a mischievous life until he encounters a girl named Nao Tomori, who recruits him to join a student council that aims to protect individuals with supernatural abilities. It only has 13 episodes but I’d recommend watching it if you are a big anime fan looking for something a little different. Crunchyroll gave it a 4.8/5.

Made by the author of One Punch Man, Mob Psycho 100 is an anime series led by protagonist Shigeo Kageyama (also known as Mob). Mob is an ordinary middle school student with immense psychic powers. He tries to live a normal life while working as an assistant to a self-proclaimed psychic named Reigen Arataka. The series explores Mob's journey of self-discovery, emotional growth, and the ethical use of power. Solid show and super popular among One Punch Man fans. Only one season aired in 2016.

Danganronpa follows a group of high school students who are trapped in a school and forced to participate in a deadly game by a sadistic bear named Monokuma. They must solve mysteries and engage in deadly class trials to uncover the truth and survive. It has one of the lower critic rankings on the list but is still a ~ Top 120 show for fans. Worth the watch if you are looking for a new adventure.
