After heavy speculation last week, the news has finally been confirmed. Ladies and gentlemen, we are officially getting a Harry Potter TV series at Max (formerly known as HBO Max). The news was announced yesterday at the Warner Bros. Discovery press conference and will feature J.K. Rowling as an executive producer. Now that the news is confirmed, there’s obviously a ton of hype surrounding the project, and with each individual season being based on the books in chronological order, we are looking at this show spanning approximately ten years (yes, ten years!). It's a good time for the franchise, hot off the success of the video game and other media. Here’s some of what we know so far about the new series.

Believe it or not, there’s a whole new generation who is just now getting their introduction to the series. Written by J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter got its start back in 1997 courtesy of author J.K. Rowling in the form of seven fantasy novels chronicling the lives of a young wizard named Harry Potter and his friends Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley, who attend the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The book series started in June 1997 and has since become the best-selling book series in history.

The television series will air on the soon-to-be-called Max and will feature an entirely new cast. As mentioned earlier, J.K. Rowling will be an executive producer on the project, with each season being based on each respective book. Rowling had this to say in a press release:

“Max’s commitment to preserving the integrity of my books is important to me, and I'm looking forward to being part of this new adaptation which will allow for a degree of depth and detail only afforded by a long-form television series.”

And here’s what Casey Bloys, chair and CEO of content for HBO and HBO Max also had to say in the same press release:

“In partnership with Warner Bros. Television and J.K. Rowling, this new Max Original series will dive deep into each of the iconic books that fans have continued to enjoy for all of these years.”

Wait, there are seven books. How can this last for 10 years?
