Time to put on our Samuel L. Jackson voice. We've already established Loki as being our ultimate shit starter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (Loki Season 2 is only a month away), but who takes the crown for strongest Marvel villain between Kang the Conqueror and Thanos? There are a lot of villains in the MCU, some we love and others we hate, and while all are powerful in there own way, Kang and Thanos have proven to command a special place in the heart of Marvel movie and comic lovers; check this out if you want to get into some of the best Marvel comics. As far as the films go, Thanos has technically been with us since 2012's Marvel's The Avengers, but most of us remember our full introduction to the villain in 2018's Infinity War. As for Kang the Conqueror, he's the new kid on the block so to speak having made his introduction in 2023's Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Why Thanos is so strong:

Thanos is strong because he is essentially a descendant of a rare and beyond powerful species called the Titanian Eternals. Who are the Eternals? They are rare superhumans that are very powerful, but Thanos' power is an even more amplified combination of mysticism, bionic amplification, and power granted to him through death. Thanos is so powerful that even without his Infinity Gauntlet he still has the ability to defeat through his intelligence and strength. Additionally, Thanos also has psionic powers, and the ability to synthesize cosmic energy. Thanos' powers are almost God-like which is why it was almost impossible to defeat him.

Why Kang is so strong:

Kang the Conqueror is so strong because of his armor, along with his advanced technology and time travel capabilities. Kang's body armor gives him advanced strength to which he is able to lift 5 tons. The armor also has a built-in force field that is extendable up to 20 feet and can even shield him from a direct nuclear strike. There's also anti-gravity capabilities that can render objects up to 2.2 tons, and concussive force blasters equivalent to up to several thousand pounds of TNT. And that's just his suit, Kang carries multiple weapons too, some of which include: a neutrino-ray warhead missile, electrical paralysis generator, an electromagnetic field- amplifier (notice we said some, not all).

And that's not all either, he's got the ability to command his own army. Don't get it twisted, Kang is uber powerful.

Thanos vs Kang in the comics

Marvel Comics

If you want to get technical, Kang has already beaten Thanos in the comics. Thanos isn't unbeatable—remember he gets defeated/killed a total of three times between Infinity War and Endgame. In the comics, however, in the issue Avengers Mech Strike #4, Kang is able to defeat Thanos by speeding up time to age him, which is an incredibly smart strategy to say the least. As intelligent as Thanos is, Kang just might be smarter.

As far as both the films and comics go, Thanos is more naturally stronger than Kang the Conqueror. Similar to how Iron-Man is rendered useless without his armor, Kang wouldn't be able to take on Thanos without his either. However, with the armor, Kang has a case for being the more of powerful of the two. Guess that means we're now at the point where we have to make a decision then huh?

Our final answer is... Kang the Conqueror. To explain, if Kang were to go 1-on-1 in a physical altercation only, Thanos would win. However, Kang understands the Multiverse much better and has the ability to use time travel to defeat Thanos by aging (which as we said happens in the comics). And since Kang is the type of villain that will do whatever it takes to get what he wants by any means necessary, we would pretty much expect him to use this method of defeat whenever he can. In our opinion, that makes him stronger.
