Folks we have a mystery here—a Scooby-Doo Mystery Incorporated puzzle that needs a bit of solving. For decades, Dr. Pepper has been one of the top and most requested sodas in the world along with the likes of Coca-Cola, Pepsi, and more. For some, (like the 104-year-old woman who credited her long life to drinking three Dr. Pepper's a day, and made it a mission to point out that she outlived the doctor who told her drinking that much soda would kill her) Dr. Pepper is their favorite beverage of all time. Having worked a stint at IHOP through my college years, I can personally attest to the demand of Dr. Pepper as the restaurant didn't/doesn't have the drink on their menu, and the disappointment on the customers face when they realized they would have to settle for something else. No doubt the demand has always been present, but there's always been one question—what are the 23 flavors in Dr. Pepper?

We uncover all of that below. Stick with us to find out the answer to this question that's asked multiple times each day.

The origins of Dr. Pepper date all the way back to the late 1800s where it was created in Waco, Texas where it was created by a pharmacist by the name of Charles Alderton. The drink was created by Alderton at Morrison's Old Corner Drug Store, which is where it began to generate attention. At that specific point in time, Dr. Pepper was known as "Waco," and that's exactly what people would request when they went to the store to order it. Alderton then passed on the formula (which has been kept a secret) to the store's owner Wade Morrison, who in turn gave the beverage the name Dr. Pepper. The drink first began being marketed in the United States circa 1904, and has seen been expanded globally. It was upon this national introduction that the 23 flavors apparently came about.
