Best Transfer Destinations for Jonathan David

DENIS CHARLET / Contributor

Erling Haaland, Kylian Mbappe and Dusan Vlahovic continue to dominate the talks of the best young strikers to lead the next generation, but another name that deserves recognition is Lille star Jonathan David.

Since arriving at the French club, David has become more and more important for the reigning Ligue 1 champions and that's brought significant spotlight to him as clubs across Europe take notes.

David is agile and exhibits good off-the-ball reading of the game, which often results in putting himself in the proper areas to rack up goals.

This season, David has 17 goals in all competitions and he's equalled his Ligue 1 total from a season ago in 10 fewer matches.

With Lille constantly producing talent outside of just David, it's highly possible that the Canada star moves this summer with many top sides seeking for that elite goal scorer that can produce for years to come.

ONE37pm takes a closer look at some of the top transfer destinations for Jonathan David ahead of a busy summer transfer window.

Arsenal

It's clear Arsenal are in the market for a striker, and with Mikel Arteta's side boasting loads of young talent, the Gunners could make a push for David.

It makes total sense given the direction Arsenal is heading in under their manager. David is young, quick and capable of playing in a variety of systems.

The Premier League side desperately needs a player like David that can move seamlessly in the penalty area and create space for himself. With the help of other promising Arsenal talents like Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli, this may be the best fit for David.

Barcelona

It's no secret that Barcelona, like many clubs, is heavily pursuing Haaland. The reality is only one club will pen the Norwegian star though, and if it's not the Blaugrana, they'll likely be in the market for another striker to compete with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

David is a logical choice because of his quick movements and the fact that he would fit into the mold of the modern Barcelona squad. Young, unafraid players that can potentially create a new generation of wealth for the Camp Nou side.

The thought of David alongside Ansu Fati, Ferran Torres, Gavi, Pedri and others is quite the prospect.

Chelsea

Chelsea's financial situation will definitely be a topic of conversation if Roman Abramovich sells the club. The Russian has never been shy when it comes to the transfer market, but it's not a guarantee that a new owner will be as flush with free capital each year to be active with prospective players.

That said, David would be an ideal fit in a squad that is starting to see Kai Havertz and Hakim Ziyech come to life up front. Meanwhile, Romelu Lukaku's struggles could mean he won't be at Stamford Bridge for long.

AC Milan

Milan has a strong relationship with Lille and that could do wonders for enticing David. The Serie A giants are already looking to bring in central defender Sven Botman, while Rafael Leao has taken the club by storm with his pace and finishing abilities.

David would represent a new generation of attacking talent at the San Siro, especially with aging stars Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Olivier Giroud nearly the end of their tremendous careers.
