Prior to the 2021/22 season, Ben Brereton Dias wasn't a widely-recognized name in football but now the Chile international is beginning to garner lots of attention across England.

Brereton and his Blackburn Rovers teammates are currently second in the English Championship and on pace to climb back into the Premier League for the first time in over a decade.

The 22-year-old striker has 20 goals this season, which only trails Fulham's Aleksandar Mitrovic in England's second tier.

In fact, Brereton has accounted for nearly half of Blackburn's goals this season, with Blackburn having registered 45 in the Championship.

Here's a closer look at the Blackburn star and how his career is trending in England.

History of Brereton

Brereton was born in Stoke and started at Manchester United's academy before arriving at Stoke and Nottingham Forest.

He made his debut for Forest in January 2017 before later joining Blackburn two seasons later.

Brereton has quickly erupted into a significant player for Rovers at the age of 22 and now he could be treading on historic territory for the club.

Only Alan Shearer previously scored 30 or more goals in a season for Blackburn, but given Brereton's goal scoring efficiency this year it's very feasible that he could crack that magic number.

Style of Play

Brereton is just a prototypical No. 9, which is why his value could really soar if Blackburn reach the Premier League next season.

The Chilean has been deployed up front in various roles, both as a true striker and a secondary forward to help play off of another striker.

Brereton is very good at picking out pockets of space between defenders and isolating himself in one versus one situations to create the most dangerous chances for his side.

The young goal scorer recently scored against Argentina in World Cup qualifying and with big opportunities like that it's going to be difficult to ignore his meteoric rise for both club and country.

In 10 caps for Chile, Brereton has four goals for his country and the South American side continues to lean on him recently as their go-to striker.

Choosing Chile National Team

Brereton originally represented England's Under 19 and Under 20 teams after growing up in Stoke, but eventually he made the switch to Chile in 2021.

Diehard Blackburn supporter Mark Hitchen has been a Football Manager researcher for some time and was going through the backgrounds of his side's players.

Hitchen discovered Brereton's Chilean ancestry and started a viral social media campaign that led to the Blackburn striker garnering recognition from the South American national team.

Now, Brereton is a regular starter for the national team and Chile has an opportunity to reach the World Cup.
