Sabrina Ionescu Drops First NFT Collection and Talks New WNBA Season

Sabrina Ionescu. That’s it.

One of the brightest young athletes in the world, Ionescu has been entertaining the masses on a national level since her Oregon Ducks days, and she's continuing to do the same thing now as a member of the New York Liberty. Last year, Ionescu kicked off Brooklyn’s home debut with a buzzer beater to beat the Indiana Fever, and opened up this season in a similar thrilling fashion this year, scoring 25 points and 6 assists to help the Liberty to an 81-79 home victory over the Connecticut Sun.

Ionescu was gracious enough to give us a check-in as she continues the start of this historic 26th WNBA season.

ONE37pm: Congratulations on being a part of this next Autograph Campaign! How was it working with the Autograph team?

Ionescu: I’m thrilled to be launching my first NFT collection with Autograph and joining so many amazing athletes and artists who are in this space.  It’s fun to collaborate, be creative, and think of new avenues to extend the power of digital collectibles.  For this drop, we came up with a concept tapping into my heritage, passions, and journey and I can’t wait to see how users vote on an outfit I’ll wear to an upcoming event. 

ONE37pm: NFTs have become such a huge part of the sports landscape. How can young athletes benefit from taking part?

Ionescu: I want to make sure the next generation knows that there's a place for them in Web3, and Autograph is helping to pave the way for younger athletes and particularly, female athletes. "The Future is…" collection with Autograph does just that.  We are a new generation – and this allows us to spotlight our potential on and off the court and field.  I’m joined by a group of young talented sports stars who are paving the way for the future including Devin Booker, Coco Gauff, Collin Morikawa, and Justin Herbert.

Ionescu: You’ll have to wait and see!
