LOEWE's FW23 Women's Presentation Was a Pixel-Blurring Extravaganza

In continuation of their reductionist-themed FW23 men’s collection, LOEWE is bringing it forward and reducing it further with their FW23 Women’s RTW collection. Set inside a white cube which itself was set against a classical building  and cubes of confetti made by artist Lara Favaretto, the FW23 Women’s show was an introverted stance that was all about silhouettes, textures, and the way materials react to light. Leather, silk duchesse, satins, velvet, cashmere knit, feathers, crystals doused in black, brown, caramel, white, and pops of pastels were the standouts of this Autumn/Winter grouping, as LOEWE experimented playing with blur as a way to stress that fashion is all about being in the moment.

The show focused on the tension between focus and out-of-focus visuals, fading impressions, and blurred pixels through their dresses, trench coats and faux fur coats with one goal in min—to become an impression: a ghost, a memory that fades or returns, and sticks. Elementality was another theme present throughout the show, as the brand aimed at taking select pieces and reducing it to the bluntest shape possible.

There was also the incorporation of single details such as folded arms, a pin gathering volume, and bag chains, along with fluid vertical proportions. Additionally, the Squeeze bag was introduced during the show, with round toe boots and slender pumps being amongst the footwear showcased.

Working with Favaretto again, who created her largest cube installation to date (21 cubes with approximately 10 tonnes of confetti to be exact), LOEWE’s FW23 show explored the space between monument and ruin, with the installation unfolding across the room to create a shifting landscape slowly eroded by the bodies that navigated it, taking inspiration from Ari Aster’s 2019 film Midsommar.
