TOMs and Wildfang Link Up For a Collaboration

TOMs x Wildfang are making a style statement while also making a positive change in the world. Launched last week, the TOMS x Wildfang collection marks the second time the two mission-driven brands have partnered for a collaboration that makes an impact. The trend-forward collaboration features a double-breasted blazer, cropped pants and two new TOMS footwear silhouettes.

The best part? This collab will benefit organizations like GirlForward, a community of support dedicated to creating and enhancing opportunities for girls who identify as refugees, immigrants, and asylum seekers. GirlForward supports girls displaced by conflict with mentor and education programs while encouraging them to explore their identities in a safe space.

ONE37pm spoke with TOMS’ Chief Marketing Officer Ian Stewart, and WILDFANG founder + CEO Emma Mcilroy to learn more about the project.

ONE37pm: Congratulations on this second collaboration! How was it teaming up again for the second time?

Emma Mcilroy: It's always fun to work with a partner with a shared vision to create an impact and some dope product.

Ian Stewart: Always a pleasure to work with the WILDFANG team. We’re so excited to get this collection out into the world and believe it does a great job exemplifying both brands’ values.

ONE37pm: What inspired the designs behind the four pieces included in the collection?

Emma Mcilroy: We started with our best-selling styles—the WILDFANG double-breasted suit & TOMS classic Alp. We then drew inspiration from our charity partner GirlForward. These young women are unbelievably inspiring. We learned a ton from our convos with them. Most of all, having an ecosystem around you is critical to being able to thrive -- having a community and connection are what allow us to not only exist but succeed. We brought that connection through in the design through the solar system patterns and graphics -- the system in which we all exist and are all connected.

Ian Stewart: Both TOMS & WILDFANG wanted to focus the collection’s design on GirlForward and how they provide safe spaces for girls. WILDFANG presented the idea of a safe space, and both brands did a literal interpretation of it by creating a space-inspired print. Bringing the ideas of your Orbit, systems of support, reaching for the stars, and support structure to life. You’ll see this print on the Classic Alp and suit from the collection.

We also wanted a sandal that would pair perfectly with the suit, so we used the bright Arcadian Green from the suit’s space print to create an elevated leather Mallow Crossover. And fully tying the collection together, you’ll find the same space print on the lining of the sandal as well, giving confidence to the women who wear it.

ONE37pm: Can you explain more about the impact aspect? This collab will also benefit organizations like GirlForward, a community of support dedicated to creating and enhancing opportunities for girls who identify as refugees, immigrants, and asylum seekers correct?

Emma Mcilroy: GirlForward is a Chicago-based nonprofit serving over 200 girls via their tutoring, mentoring, and safe spaces programs. The girls in this program are truly incredible, each with their own list of creative passions & ambitions, and every purchase from the collection supports orgs like GirlForward in their mission of empowerment.

Ian Stewart: TOMS is in business to improve lives and invests ⅓ of profits for grassroots good. This includes cash grants and deep partnerships with community organizations like GirlForward, to drive sustainable change.

ONE37pm: Anything else planned as we approach summer?

Ian Stewart: We have a number of exciting launches coming this summer! This includes introducing new colorways to our Fenix silhouette, the third and fourth parts of our 2022 Artist Series, and a collab with a trendy NYC streetwear brand.

Fashion Spotlight: As usual, we have a fashion spotlight for you guys. Our spotlight is Fossil’s newest handbag launch,  the Liza.

Liza is a new shape for the brand, inspired by vintage camera bags, and are offered in seven perfect-for-summer colors and rich neutrals.  The classic silhouette is a nod to the '90s - the best of the past meeting the best of today. Clean and modern lines coupled with signature statement hardware recall Fossil’s archival Liza wallet best-seller.

Key design features include plenty of interior and exterior storage, adjustable crossbody strap, REPREVEⓇ recycled polyester lining, and made with eco-leather sourced from a Leather Working Group rated tannery.
