North Carolina Artist TiaCorine on Her New Project 'The Saga of 34Corine'

TiaCorine has a gift for rapping, dancing, and playing multiple instruments. Hailing from North Carolina where we have seen a variety of artists such as J.Cole, Petey Pablo (who famously made a song called “North Carolina” in 2001), and The Dream, Corine is the latest artist from the city aiming to put her stamp on the music industry. On the heels of dropping her latest single and video “Luigi” off her newest project The Saga of 34Corine, the musician sat down with Monday to Monday host Mike Boyd for a 45-minute conversation.

Checking in from her hometown of Winston Salem, Corine starts the convo by chatting about the creative process behind her new effort. “It’s so crazy because I dropped 34Corine in September, and this was supposed to be the deluxe version,” she tells Boyd before detailing the challenges that came with this EP. “I’m surprised I’m not bald right now because I was so stressed trying to get this project out. I ran into a lot of difficulties, and in the meantime I had to take two songs off the original EP, and I got blessed along the way by adding three new songs. It ended up being kind of a new project, and I renamed it because it’s like a reloaded type of thing.”

As the conversation continues, Corine outlines the overall structure of the EP, and how it signifies a coming of age as she approaches a turning point in her musical style. “There were some songs that were supposed to be on the EP, but we just didn’t have enough room. I have so much music stacked up that we have to go in order. We are staggering everything right now, and I put some of the newer songs on there at the end just to give a segway into my sound changing. I’m so excited for the future because now I can start diving into the different types of sounds and beats I’ve been getting into!”

Hinting at a potential project with Kenny Beats this year, Boyd and Corine talk more about working with Kenny, and the convo takes a gaming turn when ONE37pm’s Aaron “Don” Dukes joins in to ask Corine about video games and her top three anime shows.“I love Inuyasha of course—that’s the O.G., and you’ve got to love Attack on Titan! Hunter x Hunter would be my third!”
