When Monday to Monday host Mike Boyd last spoke with YSL artist Unfoonk in February, the rapper was finishing up some work on the Slime Language 2 compilation album with Young Thug and Gunna, which dropped this past April. By now you all probably know that Unfoonk is Young Thug’s brother, but Unfoonk is very much an artist with his own unique sound, determined to carve out his lane on his own terms . His talent has caught the attention of many in the music industry, and to still be so relatively new in his career, Unfoonk has already pulled some major collaborations with 24 Heavy, Slimelife Shawty, and of course, the rest of the YSL family.

2021 has been good to the Atlanta artist thus far, who currently has a new project called My Struggle scheduled to drop on June 18th. Ahead of the release, Unfoonk caught up with Boyd to discuss the new record, and what he has been up to since the two’s last conversation four months ago. “It feels good,” he tells Boyd when asked how he feels about the new project. “I’ve got a lot of big features on the album!” Boyd then asks Unfoonk how it felt to work with artists such as Future on this upcoming release. “Those dudes are amazing! It’s great to be around them—I can’t even explain it! It’s unreal to me, and it just seems crazy that I’m right there with them. They have all taken a liking to me, and we’re brothers.”

Continuing the convo, Boyd and Unfoonk talk about the advice and mentorship he has gotten from Future over the past several months. Like many, Future views the artist as one of his little brothers. “Future gives me knowledge about life and staying free. He just wants to see me happy and winning like a real player. Shoutout to Pluto—that’s my brother! Also shoutout to G-Herbo—we see each other and we click. Same thing with Blac Youngsta, Lil Gotit, and Keed. The whole team! I’m just blessed and glad that I’m here. It’s always been a pleasure to be around those folks.
