Perhaps you’ve gotten into the horror genre recently thanks to the likes of television shows such as The Last of Us and films like M3GAN and Halloween Ends. Perhaps you’ve always been a fan of the genre, but with so many horror movies spanning back to the 1930s you probably haven’t had a chance to watch every single film out there. Whatever category you fall into, the fact remains that there’s more than likely a horror film that you’ve watched that has a sequel/sequels that you either haven’t gotten around to watching yet, or didn’t know it even had a sequel to begin with. Sequels can be a tricky thing to deal with in the world of film as there’s perhaps a slightly unfair expectation that they are held to with the first movie in the series being so critically acclaimed, universally loved, and box office successful.
Whether we realize it or not, we go into these sequel films automatically in comparison mode. We compare the storylines, whether or not all of the original actors from the first film returned, how the director approached the sequel as opposed to the first movie, and so on and so forth. Sometimes we even get super critical and nit pick things such as how much the sequel pulled in during opening weekend as opposed to the first film.
