'The Hunger Games' Movies in Order and Where to Watch Them

The Hunger Games takes place 64 years after the events The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, and is where for the first time we are introduced to the sharp hunting District 12 Tribute Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence). Katniss doesn't have much expertise other than her natural abilities, but those natural abilities are good enough for her to take the place of her sister for the 74th annual Hunger Games, an event in which all twelve districts select a boy and a girl known as "the Tributes" to compete. This first Hunger Games features Katniss and her beau Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson) fighting to become the last two left amongst all of the competitors.

The Hunger Games set the then-record for both the opening day and opening weekend gross for a non-sequel, ultimately pulling in $694.4 million at the box office.

Katniss and Peeta achieved victory at the 74th annual Hunger Games, but the fight is far from over. One year later, the two are back at it for the upcoming 75th Hunger Games, where they are fighting a mixture of enemies and targets who are out for revenge. At this point, Katniss is something of a hometown hero with many looking to her for guidance and hope, but this go-round proves to be even more difficult than the first as there is a conspiracy going on behind Katniss' back, along with the pressing issue of President Snow (Donald Sutherland) issue a rather unfair rule change that shakes things up. The events of Catching Fire leaves us with some resolutions, and some questions that still need to be answered.

Mockingjay Part 1 picks up where the events of Catching Fire leaves off as Katniss awakens underneath District 13. Having had a stressful couple of years, Katniss is experiencing a lot of mental anguish that has her in a state that isn't the best emotionally. Her self-esteem is shot, and she is basically operating in a state of functional depression. Peeta isn't much better shape as he's actually being brainwashed by President Snow. In the midst of all this, Katniss learns that there is a rebellion which she insists she wants to fight for. Yet again, however, President Snow puts a wrench into the plans with an underhanded method that results in reprogrammed hostages being captured. Katniss rises above and successfully fights the good fight, but there's still more work to be done.

Mockingjay Part 1 ends with a clear indication that there's going to be a part two, which zones in on Katnis, Peeta, Gale (Liam Hemsworth), and Finnick teaming up for the ultimate mission of assassinating President Snow as it's either a matter of Katniss and crew killing him, or President Snow killing Katniss. With a successful assassination also comes the end of the war and brutal senseless killings, which adds to the component of needing President Snow eliminated completely. What follows is Katniss' most daunting battle yet, a range of sacrifices that have to be made, and some shocking surprises in between.

At the time of this writing we haven't seen The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds yet, so we can only go based upon the information that has been released thus far. With this being a prequel, we're pretty much seeing a glimpse into a teenage Coriolanus Snow before he becomes the tyrannical president we see him turn into later. The 10th Hunger Games are the event at the center of attention, and Snow has been assigned to mentor Lucy Gray Baird (Rachel Zegler) from District 12. One of them ends up being a "songbird," while the other ends up being a "snake." While the description is left open, we can all probably guess who the snake is.
