Which Driver Has The Most F1 Wins?

There is no denying that the GOAT of Formula 1 racing is the great Lewis Hamilton. He's currently tied for the most Driver Championships, but holds the record for most individual race wins by nine races.

Hamilton claimed his first title in 2008 with McLaren before moving to Mercedes in 2012. After that, winning came often. Hamilton still races today at an extremely high level and his 103 total race wins will surely increase. If he claims just one more Drivers Championship, there will be no debate on who the greatest Formula 1 driver of all-time is.

Before there was Lewis Hamilton, there was Michael Schumacher. He's tied with Lewis Hamilton for the most Driver Championships, but sits second to him in total race wins. Schumacher helped bring F1 to an even larger audience in the 2000's with his cunning and dominating driving style.

He finished his career with 91 total race wins, 155 podium finishes, and 1,566 career points, and first retired with Ferrari in 2009 before returning with Mercedes in 2010. Once he retired for good in 2012, Lewis Hamilton took over.

Sebastian Vettel may have called it a career and officially retired last season, but that doesn't change the fact that he is one of Formula 1's most dominant drivers ever. Vettel won over 50 races in his 15 year career.

He claimed his first victory in 2008 at the Italian Grand Prix, which at the time made him the youngest driver to ever win a race. Vettel had one of the most dominant stretches ever, winning four consecutive Driver Championships from 2010 to 2013.

The mid-1980's to mid-1990's in Formula 1 can be defined by two men: Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna. The two were teammates at McLaren and Ferrari while simultaneously being the best two drivers in the world. Prost claimed four Driver Championships and won over 50 races throughout his illustrious career.

Prost may always be overlooked because of Senna's dominance , but that will never take away the fact that Prost is one of the best to ever drive.

There is no figure as important to the world of Formula 1 than Ayrton Senna. Arguably the greatest driver of all time, Senna influenced a multitude of generations after his dominating run. He began his F1 career in 1984 and by 1988 was winning driver championships. It's incredible to think that Senna is top five in race wins when his career only spanned ten years.

Tragically, in 1994 Ayrton Senna ran a straight line off the track and hit a concrete wall. A medical team got to Senna within two minutes but it proved to be too late, and he passed away in the hospital later that night.

Max Verstappen has distanced himself as the world's number 1 driver today. There is no denying that Verstappen is on the top of his game, winning the two previous Driver Championships. Along the way, he has claimed 37 race wins, putting him at sixth all-time. It's remarkable to think that at only 25-years-old, Verstappen has already reached this level. If he continues this way, he could easily be first on this list sometime in the future.

Spanish driver Fernando Alonso has more than made his name in racing since entering Formula 1 in 2001. He has claimed 32 race wins and took home two Driver Championships on the way. Alonso still races in F1 today with team Aston Martin and is having an incredible season, currently sitting at third in the standings. There is still plenty of driving let to do for Fernando Alonso.

When it comes to being a pure driver, Nigel Mansell is him. Mansell was dominant at any form of racing he attempted. He won the 1992 F1 Drivers Championship and then moved to the CART IndyCar World Series, winning the championship in that league as well. He became the first and only person in history to hold the F1 Drivers Championship and CART IndyCar World Series Championship at the same time.

In the history of Formula 1, Niki Lauda remains one of its most important figures. Lauda won 25 races across his career and always did it by being the most prepared driver on the track.

He won three drivers championships throughout the 70's and 80's alongside fierce rival and teammate James Hunt. Lauda was seen as a perfectionist and was hell-bent on being the best driver ever. A harrowing moment in his career came in 1976 at the German Grand Prix where he crashed his Ferrari and it burst into flames, causing him to inhale toxic fumes and nearly die. He returned just six weeks later to the race track.

Jim Clark won two Formula One World Championships, in 1963 and 1965, and he also won the Indianapolis-500 in 1965. He won a total of 25 Grand Prix races during his career, putting him tenth on the all-time wins list.

Clark was known for his smooth, precise driving style and his ability to extract the maximum performance from his cars. He was also known for his versatility, as he competed successfully in a variety of different racing categories, including touring cars, sports cars, and rally events.

If you're looking for the OG of Formula 1, look no further than Juan Manuel Fangio. In Formula 1's first eight years as a league, Fangio won five of those Drivers Championships. Although his racing career only spanned eight years, Fangio still won enough to rank eleventh all time in race wins.

He was so popular at the time of his racing days that during an event in Cuba he was kidnapped by two of Fidel Castros men. After more than 24 hours in capture Fangio told reporters "If what the rebels did was in a good cause, then I, as an Argentine, accept it." Fangio truly exemplified what it meant to be a champion on and off the track.

Nelson Piquet was a Brazilian driver who won three F1 world championships throughout the 1980's. He had a fierce rivalry towards the end of his career with countrymen Ayrton Senna which saw the sport of F1 grow. Piquet raced under teams Ensign, McLaren, Brabham, Williams, Lotus, and Benetton. Across his 204 starts Piquet has 23 wins, 60 podium finishes, and 485 total career points. That 23 wins is enough to place him in the top 15 all-time for race wins.

Nico Rosberg had Formula 1 fans on the edge of their seats from 2006 to 2016 with his exceptional racing skill. The German driver raced with Williams and Mercedes during his career and claimed the 2016 Drivers Championship before he retired. In his ten year career Rosberg claimed 23 wins, placing him thirteenth all time for wins in Formula 1.
