Alexander Wang is going cupid with their Pre-Fall and Fall 2023 womenswear collection and relaunch of their menswear. Inviting guests to unlock Cupid’s door, both the women’s collection and the menswear, which is set to be relaunched and available beginning in May 2023, and designed into all pre-collections moving forward, were presented  in the heart of Chinatown, NYC. Cupid’s Door is a celebration of romance and is inspired by the alpha character who embodies empowerment and controls their own narrative and point of view through strength, dressing, and attitude.

Nuances of classic menswear are re-contextualized in new fabrications and fits to evoke a tension between masculine and feminine, hard and soft, bold and subtle. Traditional dressing codes and tropes are revamped and elevated in new materials adding a duality and grandeur to the banal.

Showcasing a design of Cupid’s Door inspired by romance and eroticism, along with a runway layout featuring a double-heart design with subdued pink velvet drapes and zebra print flooring, the 58-piece collection was on full display with Julia Fox and Sydney Carlson appearing on the runway for 150+ invitees. VIP guests included Ming Lee Simmons, Ava Max, Maliibu Miitch, Bloody Osiris, Saint Jhn, Deto Black, Nikita Dragun, Amanda Lepore, Hank Korsan, and more.

The show opened with a vibrant flash, plush faux furs that were shown in exaggerated silhouettes and as luxe trim detailing on denim and leather tailoring. Classic workwear and suiting styles: trousers, coats, overalls, and pencil skirts are seen in a mix of colorful faux python and zebra printed leather adding a ferocity to the typically tame.

Silk slip dresses and lingerie infused with graphic hearts and butterfly lace detailings styled with menswear staples were also a part of the show, along with 90s inspired menswear. Honing in on 1990s athletic silhouettes and sportswear, the looks were shown with a tough mix of conventionally feminine materials and textures. Pieces, such as the glitter spray dense fleece sweats and vibrant faux snakeskin cropped vests, were styled open with bare skin, giving a desirable edge.
