With us currently being in the midst of the FW23 Fashion Week presentations, we thought it would be fun to revisit some of the classic and most iconic fashion shows in history. There have been many great ones over the decades, making it kind of a slightly impossible task to narrow them down to just ten, but we’re going to give it a shot. Now what exactly separates a great show from one that is an all timer? That standard can vary from person to person, but for us it’s a combination of the pieces showcased during the presentations along with the impact it had, the models that were a part of said shows, and whether or not they are still being talked about years later.
For us, this rules out many of the newer shows because they haven’t met the time length qualifications to be included. If, however, they are still being talked about five, ten, and twenty years from now, then that will be a different discussion. There’s also the “fan craze” qualification meaning, how much of a stir did the show cause? While this might be a slightly biased take, a solid argument can be made that it was more difficult to achieve fan frenzy before the rise of the internet and social media. So if a show captured national attention and praise in the year 1999 before Twitter, TikTok, and Instagram, it could be said that it was a much harder feat than the year 2023.
Regardless, a legendary fashion show is a legendary fashion show, and today we’re taking a look at some of the best in history.
