'Gen V' Season Finale Explained: Where 'The Boys' Season 4 Will Start

As teased multiple times throughout Gen V, the story takes place sometime directly after the end of the season. We know this because the show directly refers to Homelander (Antony Starr) killing an innocent protester and what the repercussions of that should be. The last we saw Homelander he was paraded by his fans for using his powers to their full capability (AKA killing anyone he wants) and took near full control of Vought. While all this was going on we also found out in season three that Victoria Neuman (Claudia Doumit), most likely the future president of the United States in the show, is a "Supe." With all the context of these big players, let's get into the finale.

Episode 7 of Gen V left us on a massive cliffhanger, with Cate (Maddie Phillips) killing Dean Shetty (Shelley Conn). A fight breaks out between our five main protagonists, with Cate and Sam (Asa Germann) wanting to free the underground mental institution that Godolkin U was the front for. Our real heroes, Marie (Jaz Sinclair), Andre (Chance Perdomo), and Jordan (Derek Luh) want to figure out a better solution to free the patients, as they know letting all those people out directly into society would cause chaos.

With Cate and Sam being the two most powerful characters in Gen V, they easily dismiss the other three students and release everyone from the woods. What happens is 10 minutes of supes running ramped killing any and every human they could find. Right as Cate is about to touch Andrew, Marie blows off her arm. This is all stopped once Homelander arrives, who blasts Marie with his laser vision after asking 'What kind of animal kills their own" and the screen cuts to black. We find out on the Vought-owned news channel that it was apparently Marie, Andre, Jordan, and Emma's (Lizze Broadway) fault for the deaths at Goldokin U, and that Cate and Sam were the heroes that day.

After the news cuts and the episodes seem to be over, we're shown Marie, Jordan, Andre, and Emma all in a new state-of-the-art prison that is supposed to be a new version of the woods. Obviously, Cate and Sam were not the heroes that day, but to Homelander anyone trying to release more Supes into the world is a hero. There is a clear line in the sand drawn between pro-supes and anti-supes characters now and that will be the great divide of The Boys.

Our final shot shows Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) discovering the remnants of the woods. We also know that Neuman has an airborne disease that can kill supes, a chess piece she will likely use over Homelander once she is in office. The only person who knows Neuman is a supe however is Marie, who is in the underground prison as of now. It is not clear how evil Neuman is or what her motive exactly is, but she likely will yield the most power come season 4 of The Boys.

After all the deaths of humans at Godolkin and Homelander set to hit trial for his murder, I'm guessing that there will be some sort of punishment for Homelander. This will only lead to a bigger divide between Supes and humans, leading to an all-out war.
