Novak Djokovic squared off against Nick Kyrgios to defend the Wimbledon title for his fourth consecutive championship. Kyrgios came out firing and took the first set 6-4.

Djokovic used that first set loss as fuel and rallied to win three straight sets. The fourth and final game was an extremely tense one that went into a tie-breaker, the first such occurrence in Wimbledon finals history.

This was Novak Djokovic's seventh Wimbledon title, putting him second all-time for the most championships won.

The first professional to win Wimbledon in the Open Era is Australian tennis legend Rod Laver, who won a number of Wimbledon titles before the Open Era. He also claimed the first two titles in the new format that we know today.

Laver defeated Tony Roche in three straight sets that were never really close. He remains one of the grandfathers of the Wimbledon Open Era and will always be one of its greatest champions.

Roger Federer leads all professional tennis players in Wimbledon titles, winning eight throughout his illustrious career. His best stretch came between 2003-2007, as he went on to win all five Wimbledon titles in those years.

Novak Djokovic tied Pete Sampras with seven titles at the 2022 Wimbledon tournament. Djokovic is still playing in top-form and could very well win another, which would tie him for first all-time. Sampras won all seven of his Wimbledon titles in an eight year stretch from 1992 to 2000.

Björn Borg and John McEnroe take the fourth and fifth place spot and squared off against each other in some of the most highly publicized tennis matches ever. Borg had won four straight Wimbledon titles and was looking to win his fifth straight in 1980. That was the first time Borg and McEnroe faced off in the finals, with Borg walking away victorious. McEnroe got his revenge in the 1981 finals.
