Sneaker collaborations are everywhere in the year 2022, but believe it or not, there was a point in time when the idea of brands/celebrities coming together was more of a rarity. With so many out there, the task of figuring out which is the best can be a daunting one considering that sneaker collaborations go as far back as the 1970s if you want to get technical, when brands starting working with superstar athletes (Dr. J) by signing them to deals that in turn would allow them to promote signature sneakers in the lineup, and down the line make their own shoes. The best sneaker collaborations would start to come out over the next few decades.

As it turns out, that original decision is one of the best in the fashion industry, with collaborations in other realms of the entertainment realm following in the 1990s, 2000s, 2010s, and present date. That said, what is considered to be the best? Well, that’s what we are reflecting on today. Below are our individual selections of 30 different collaborations that we personally consider to be the best of all time. You may agree. You may even disagree, but we can all agree that these sneakers had and continue to have a major influence in the streetwear and sneakers universe.

For context, the years listed in this article mark the genesis of the partnership between the two brands, which often produced a roster of collabs over the years. Check them out below.

RELATED: The Greatest New Balance Collaborations of All Time

1. Union LA x Air Jordan (2018)

Screen Shot 2022 12 07 at 2.19.55 PM
  • Union LA x Air Jordan 1 Retro High NRG 'Black Toe'

The first of many which sparked a chain reaction so to speak. There were two colorways in the first drop—the Union LA x AJ1 High NRG “Black Toe,” and the “Storm Blue.” Many consider Union LA and Air Jordan linking up to be the “Godfather” of sneaker collaborations, and it’s hard to argue that sentiment considering that it did change the game in terms of local retailers partnering with major brands.

2. Palace x adidas (2015)

Screen Shot 2022 12 07 at 2.32.32 PM
  • Palace x adidas Pro Trainer

It’s also hard to dispute the impact Palace has had when it has come to their major collaborations, one of those being the Pro-Trainers that they created with adidas back in 2015. The original white and red colorway set it all off for the two, which quickly sparked more releases through the year. This was definitely a time in the sneaker world, and it’s interesting to see how far Palace has come since then.

3. Cardi B x Reebok (2022)

  • Cardi B Club C V2 Women's Shoes

Since Cardi B’s time with Reebok is coming to an end, we figured we would look back on her success with the brand. There’s no denying Cardi’s appeal as being one of the most influential rappers in the game right now, and her collab with Reebok produced many memorable sneakers such as the Cardi B Classic Leather V2, which came in six different colorways and now the Club C V2, which comes in eight.

4. Supreme x Vans (1996)

  • Supreme x Vans Old Skool Camo

The kicks pictured above aren't those from the original collab, as those are pretty much impossible to find these days. But they're a nice homage to the original partnership that you can shop today.

One, the decision to call these Old Skool with a K is so 1990s. Two, this is no doubt one of the best sneaker linkups of all-time. Designed in a camouflage colorway (hence the Camo), this drop was a major glimpse into what was to come, especially considering the fact Supreme itself was still two years away from officially launching. Supreme is still going strong to this day, with their recent Swarovski collaboration being an indication of how their work has helped them to evolve into powerhouses in the fashion industry.

5. Stüssy x Nike (2000)

Screen Shot 2022 12 07 at 2.43.58 PM 1
  • Stüssy x Nike Air Huarache LE

Stüssy and Nike took over for the 99 and 2000 the same way Cash Money Records did. What started it all was the Stüssy x Nike Air Huarache in 2000 which was a limited edition shoe. What followed was a set of Stüssy x Nike Dunks in 2001, and after that, it was like a volcanic eruption. Some of us have literally grown up with Stüssy x Nike, with the two still joining forces in the year 2022 Stussy x Air Force 1 Mid 'Black White.' Talk about longevity.

The kicks pictured above are their latest collaborative rendition of the Huaraches.

6. Nike x Yeezy (2009)

Screen Shot 2022 12 07 at 2.47.32 PM
  • Nike x Air Yeezy “Red October”

First, we have to acknowledge that it was a tough decision as to whether or not we wanted to include the Yeezy Brand, but if we are talking about the greatest sneaker collaborations of all time, we had to mention Yeezy in some form whether it was by way of inclusion or exclusion. So we’ll keep it solely about the sneakers here.

Before Kanye’s deal with adidas, he was previously signed to Nike, which resulted in a number of highly successful drops which have been highly coveted since. While there was more than one release, many consider the Nike x Air Yeezy “Red October” (which came out in 2014) to be the pinnacle.

7. Yeezy x adidas (2015)

Screen Shot 2022 12 07 at 2.50.24 PM
  • Yeezy x adidas Original Boost 350 V2

And since we’re on the topic, the adidas x Yeezy movement was very much a real and impactful one at its zenith. Yeezys were borderline impossible to get, the hype surrounding certain releases was crazy, and the prices (especially resell) could be astronomical. Typically dozens of Yeezys would come out through the course of the year (there seemed to be an average of one to two per month), and while there were a lot of different variations, the Boost 350 V2’s seemed to be the most purchased.

8. Jil Sander x PUMA (1998)

Screen Shot 2022 12 07 at 2.53.32 PM
  • Jil Sander x PUMA

There’s no luxury brand and sneaker collaborations without Jil Sander, the one who started it all. The German fashion designer partnered with PUMA in 1998 to release a game-changing shoe that beautifully blended together couture with athletic streetwear. The deal featured a casual version of the King Football Cleats, along with a PUMA version of the Easy Rider, once again paving the way for luxury and athletic brands to come together in the years that followed.

9. Big Sean x adidas (2012)

Screen Shot 2022 12 07 at 2.56.41 PM
  • Adidas Pro Model II

Sean Don and adidas dropped the Pro Model II towards the end of December 2012, which would spark several other releases over the next few years, including the still highly coveted Big Sean x adidas Originals Metro Attitude Hi in August 2014.

10. Kendrick Lamar x Nike (2017)

Screen Shot 2022 12 07 at 2.58.28 PM
  • Kendrick Lamar x Nike Cortez Basic Slip

A year after signing with Nike, Kendrick Lamar and Nike teamed up to drop the Cortez Basic Slip, which was considered to be an update to mainstream Southern Cali sneaker culture. The two have a few other standout releases including the Nike React Element 55 Kendrick Lamar, and the Cortez Kenny 3 TDE, making it one of the best rapper sneaker collabs to date.

11. A Ma Maniére x Air Jordan (2021)

  •  A Ma Maniére x Air Jordan 3 “Raised By Women”

No sneaker collaboration is complete without an A Ma Maniére x Air Jordan 3 inclusion, and many (us included) consider to be the A Ma Maniére x Air Jordan 3 “Raised By Women” the best (the resell prices are an indication of that). The two are still very much frequent collaborators, having just released the A Ma Maniére x Air Jordan 4 “Violet Ore” on November 23rd.

12. Maison Margiela x Reebok (2021)

  • Maison Margiela x Reebok x Reebok Classic Tabi Biachetto Sneaker

Another example of luxury and athletic coming together for the greater good, Margiela and Reebok has been a pleasant addition to our regular sneaker watch lists for almost a decade now. They've produced a couple iterations of Club Cs and other silhouettes in the past year or so, with the latest being the Maison Margiela Classic Leather Tabi Nylon, which just came out this past week.

13. Patta x Nike Air Max (2005)

  • Patta x Nike Air Max 1 “Noise Aqua”

Patta and Nike’s relationship goes all the way back to 2005, when they released the Patta x Nike Air Max 1 “Amsterdam.” In the seventeen years since, the two have dropped plenty of epic sneakers, including the “Noise Aqua” which made its debut in 2021.

14. Drake x Air Jordan (2013)

  • NOCTA x Air Force 1 Low “Certified Lover Boy”

Drake and Nike go all the way back to December 2013 when Mr. OVO officially signed a deal with the brand. In the nearly decade since, the two have dropped a plethora of noteworthy sneakers including the NOCTA x Air Force 1 Low “Certified Lover Boy,” which dropped on December 8th.

15. Pharrell x adidas (2014)

Screen Shot 2022 12 09 at 11.11.23 AM
  • Pharrell x adidas Superstar Supershell

For years prior to signing with adidas, Pharrell was known as “Skateboard P,” so it was only right that he eventually signed a deal with the brand which became heavily known for their presence in skate apparel. The Pharrell x adidas Originals Superstar is just one of many when it comes to their signature releases, as the two drop frequently.

16. Off-White x Nike (2017)

Screen Shot 2022 12 07 at 3.13.33 PM
  • Off- White x Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG “UNC”

One of the most prolific partnerships of all time, to say Off-White and Nike has done the damn thing would be an understatement. There’s tons (and we do mean tons) of legendary sneakers from the pair, with our favorite being the Retro High OG “UNC” from a few years back. While we must admit it hasn’t felt the same since Virgil Abloh’s passing, both brands are doing a good job in carrying his legacy forward. Their newest release, the Off-White x Nike Air Terra Forma is scheduled to come out on December 21st, 2022.

17. Atmos x Nike (2001)

Screen Shot 2022 12 07 at 3.15.45 PM
  • Nike Air Max 1 Atmos Elephant

It’s hard to believe, but Nike and atmos have been working together since 2001. Yes people, 2001. When you have a catalog that spans 20 plus years, it’s hard to narrow it down to what’s considered to be your best release (especially when you factor in nostalgia), but the Air Max 1 Atmos Elephant from 2007 does hold a special place in sneaker lovers' hearts.

18. KITH x Nike (2017)

Screen Shot 2022 12 07 at 3.18.05 PM
  •  Nike x KITH Air Force 1 Low “NYC”

KITH and Nike have been blessing us continuously since 2017 with both apparel and sneakers. In terms of sneakers, the KITH and Nike partnership seems to veer mostly towards iterations of the Air Force 1, of which there’s plenty that could theoretically speaking make an all-time list. One of our favorites is the “NYC,” because, well, we’re an NYC-based brand.

19. Run DMC x adidas (1986)

Screen Shot 2022 12 07 at 3.23.40 PM
  • Run DMC x Superstar ‘50th Anniversary’

Correct us if we are wrong, but we do believe that Run DMC was the first hip-hop act to ink a major deal with an athletic brand. That makes Run DMC x adidas one of the best collaborations ever for its cultural impact. The Superstar 50th is an example of that, paying homage to the group who became known for wearing their shell-toe sneakers without laces.

20. Travis Scott x Nike (2018)

Screen Shot 2022 12 07 at 3.26.33 PM
  • Travis Scott x Air Jordan 1 Low OG ‘Reverse Mocha’

Travis Scott and Nike are wrapping up their fourth year of what continues to be a highly successful partnership. The rapper remains one of Nike’s best sellers collab wise, with each drop coming with its own amount of anticipation and hype. One of the most popular Nike x Travis Scott releases are the ‘Reverse Mocha’ Low OG AJ1s, which starts at about $900.

21. Nike SB (2002)

Screen Shot 2022 12 07 at 3.29.30 PM
  • Supreme x Nike SB Dunk Low

The early 2000s was the time when skating/skateboarding really began gaining mainstream popularity, which made it the perfect opportunity for Nike to develop their skate shoes and apparel. Since that time period, the Nike SB has gone on to explode, with groundbreaking collaborations, multiple sellouts, and tons of popularity, making Nike’s decision to work with Sandy Bodecker among their best.

22. Louis Vuitton x Nike (2021)

Screen Shot 2022 12 07 at 3.32.58 PM
  • Louis Vuitton x Nike Air Force 1

Louis Vuitton and Nike working together seemed like an impossible scenario years ago, and yet Virgil Abloh made it happen in 2021 with the highly anticipated Louis V x Nike Air Force 1 collection that he worked on prior to his untimely passing. The sheer hype surrounding this was incredible, and as you can imagine, any shoe from this collection costs a pretty penny.

23. BAPE x adidas (2003)

Screen Shot 2022 12 07 at 3.35.28 PM
  • BAPE x adidas Superstar ‘White Black’

With their 20th anniversary of working together approaching next year, you can be sure that BAPE and adidas will have something special to commemorate what has been twenty years of brilliant shoes, and one of the best partnerships in sneaker history. The sneaker industry wouldn’t be where it is today without BAPE x adidas coming together.

24. Supreme x Nike (2002)

Screen Shot 2022 12 07 at 3.37.31 PM
  • Nike x Supreme Air Force 1 Sneakers

Since their very first collaboration in 2002, Supreme and Nike have become household names in the world of collabs, and for good reason. Over the course of two decades, the pair has seen roughly 30ish sneakers produced, beautifully evolving with time. If we’re talking about partnerships that always cause conversation with new releases, Supreme and Nike are among the top.

25. Christian Dior x Nike Air Jordan (2020)

Screen Shot 2022 12 07 at 3.40.00 PM
  • Christian Dior x Nike Air Jordan Oblique Low

When LVMH acquired Dior back in 2017, it didn’t take long for rumblings of an Air Jordan x Dior collaboration to start happening, and upon finally being announced in 2019, the luxury shoe enthusiasts went crazy. While COVID did delay the initial release of Dior x Nike, fans eventually got their wish with the ‘Oblique Low’ release.

It’s no secret that the Dior announcement and its success was a catalyst in paving the way for Louis Vuitton x Nike roughly two years later, with this still being a much-desired shoe.

26. Rihanna x PUMA (2014)

Screen Shot 2022 12 07 at 3.42.40 PM
  • Rihanna x Fenty Creepers

It’s Rihanna. The fashion killa. Anything she touches sells like hot cakes, and one could definitely say that her era with PUMA paved the way for what she is doing now with her individual Fenty brands.

27. Eminem x Nike (2003)

Screen Shot 2022 12 07 at 3.45.24 PM
Flight Club
  • Eminem x Carhartt x Air Jordan 4 ‘Black Chrome’

The love affair between Nike and Eminem spans back to 2003 when the two first worked together on Nike’s artist series, which saw the release of the ‘Shady Burst.” Now roughly 20 years later, Eminem and Nike are still causing chaos with fans going crazy over the custom Air Jordans the rapper wore at Super Bowl 2022.

28. Wu-Tang x Nike (1999)

Screen Shot 2022 12 07 at 3.47.46 PM
  • Wu-Tang x Nike Dunk High

1999 saw the release of the Wu-Tang x Nike Dunk High, which has become a super rare collectibles item for both sneaker and hip hop fans. We’d definitely say this qualifies as one of the best collaborations of all time.

29. Prada x adidas (2019)

Screen Shot 2022 12 07 at 3.50.18 PM
  • adidas x Prada Re-Nylon Forum high-top sneakers

Luxurious and opulent. Those are the very words that have described the collaboration between adidas and Prada thus far, which is still quite new. Year four is certain to bring another drop between the two, and we already can’t wait to see what’s in store.

30. GUCCI x adidas (2022)

Screen Shot 2022 12 07 at 3.53.04 PM
  • Adidas x GUCCI Gazelle Sneakers

Even newer is adidas’ collaboration with GUCCI, which made its runway debut in June 2022. While still very much in the early phases, this is a partnership that is going to do some damage in the future.
