It may be the first days of spring, but our minds are already starting to wander towards our summer outfits. It’s only natural to complete our fresh summer outfits with a nice pair of sunglasses right? And honestly, what makes you look cooler than an epic pair of sunglasses (Tom Cruise knows a thing or two about this)? If you are aiming to channel your inner Tom Cruise this summer, we have a solid list of the best sunglasses for men that we have carefully researched and put together. While the stylish element of shades aren’t to be underestimated, we quickly forget just how important they are in terms of protecting our eyes from UV Rays. As with any of our roundups, you’ll want to personally take into account the factors that you are looking for with your sunglasses purchase as only you can determine what’s best for you.

As far as our suggestions go—comfort is the number one factor in our book when it comes to selecting shades. You don’t want a pair of sunglasses that’s constantly sliding down your face or pinching the bridges of your nose as that’s…not comfortable. Sunglasses are also often very fragile, meaning if they fall off your face and onto the ground—that’s very likely the end of your sunglasses. For those reasons alone, it’s important to get the fit right. Make sure to take down the measurements of your best fitting sunglasses so that you can keep that in mind whilst searching for your new pair.

Another factor to consider is the overall style of the glasses. That’s more so a personality thing in our opinion. Do you like aviators, or are you more of a hexagonal sunglasses person? Only you can make that determination.

Lastly, what are you willing to spend? Once again, this is a personal preference as there are sunglasses that range from super cheap quick pickups to luxury sunglasses that are worth thousands of dollars. Ultimately it all comes down to your budget and what you are looking to spend. Now that you have those factors in mind, we can dive into the list. Also, make sure to check out some of the cool sunglasses brands we’ve profiled in recent months for additional suggestions.

sunglasses1 1
DITA

Most Stylish Sunglasses

  • What We Love: The overall style and color
  • Something to Consider: Might be too pricey

When it comes to style, DITAs Midnight Special Sunglasses are top-tier as they pay inspiration to Hollywood’s Golden Age (think James Dean and James Bond). The Midnight Special glasses are a timeless classic design with DITA frames that are manufactured by skilled artisans and craftsmen who have spent as many as 50 years perfecting their craft. The acetates and metals on these glasses are one of the many factors that make them standout, and the brand offers five different colors to choose from (Black Palladium, Yellow Gold, Black Rhodium, Antique Silver, and 12K Gold). Definitely keep DITA in consideration for your sunglasses needs this summer.

2. Ray-Ban Frame Brown

Ray-Ban

Best Sunglasses Overall

  • What We Love: The classic look
  • Something to Consider: May not always be in stock

It doesn’t get any more tried and true when it comes to sunglasses than Ray-Ban right? Obviously there’s a large catalog to choose from when it comes to their glasses so you don’t have to automatically roll with the pair that we selected. We just wanted to give you an example of one of our favorites from the brand. The Ray-Ban Frame Brown code name RB4331 gives you the masculine style that the company is associated with, and the choice of a havana style, or transparent colors for more options.

You can play around with a variety of gradients and lenses, and if need be, Ray-Ban gives you the choice to add prescription lenses if that is something you are looking to explore.

3. Shady Rays Blackout Polarized

Shady Rays

Best Black Sunglasses

  • What We Love: The durable matte black frame
  • Something to Consider: Could be a tight fit around the bridge area

An all-black pair of shades has never failed anybody, and Shady Rays has an excellent pair worth copping called the “Blackout Polarized.” While we do automatically associate shades with the warmer months, there are some really cool individuals who can pull off wearing sunglasses in the winter months/cold weather, which these glasses allow you to do because of the overall style. Whether you fall into this category or not, Shady Rays is the way to go (and there’s other colors to browse through as well).

4. MVMT Reveler Sunglasses

sunglasses2 copy 2
MVMT

Best Beach Sunglasses

  • What We Love: The option to choose from polarized or non-polarized
  • Something to Consider: The size of the frame could be too large

Are these not a ridiculously cool pair of sunglasses? Seriously, they're sick. MVMT’s Reveler Sunglasses are a classic rectangle pair of shades that are designed with 100% acetate to give you balance, comfort, and durability. This is important because sometimes it can be harder to see and make out colors with darker shades of lenses, which is preferably something you want to avoid if you are going to be driving. The color of the shades is also one that allows you to easily pair with a lot of different outfits in your closet which is always an added bonus.

5. Tom Ford Luxury Sunglasses

Tom Ford

Best Luxury Sunglasses

  • What We Love: The versatility of the shades
  • Something to Consider: Could uncomfortable in the nose bridge area

Sleek minimalism is the key factor in Tom Ford pieces, and their sunglasses are no exception. Combining luxury, glamour, and exclusivity, Tom Ford’s Luxury Sunglasses are fine and fun with the choice to add in prescription lenses if need be. There’s nothing quite like gray lenses against black frames, and Tom Ford executes this contrast perfectly with just the right amount of gray, and the right amount of black. The attention to detail and the overall quality of the glasses is on-point as usual too.

The styles come in gold or black frames using polarized lenses with the option of blue light protection, with each piece being handcrafted in Los Angeles.

What to Consider When Buying Men’s Sunglasses

As mentioned earlier, comfort is the number one factor to consider when purchasing a pair of sunglasses, because glasses sit directly on your face. If you aren’t going to be comfortable, there’s really no point in buying. That can be a hard determination to make online, so try to reference the measurement/size of pairs that have worked for you before buying. The style of the sunglasses are another factor to keep in mind as well. If you don’t like aviator sunglasses, then it’s probably not a good idea to buy aviator sunglasses (and that applies for any style of sunglasses). Lastly, the price. What are you willing to spend? Be sure to have your budget in mind as you shop.

Frequently Asked Questions About Buying Men’s Sunglasses

Here are some frequently asked questions when it comes to buying men’s sunglasses.

What Should I Be Willing to Spend?

This ultimately comes down to you. Are you somebody who loves to frequently buy sunglasses, or are you a person that maybe buys a pair every couple of years? If you like to pick up pairs often, is it in your budget to buy $300 sunglasses once every couple of months? On the opposite end, if you are somebody that only buys sunglasses every few years, the splurge might be worth it. Your best bet is to go with classic frames as they are versatile, timeless, and easily pairable with a range of outfits in your closet.

What About My Face Shape? What are the Best Frames?

It can be really hard to buy sunglasses online as you are deprived of the experience of being able to try them on in person. There are certain fashion pieces that you can accurately guess online based on previous items you have purchased (jeans for example), but you really need to try sunglasses on in person to see if they work. Obviously this isn’t always a possibility, so we suggest trying to find a previous pair that has worked with you, and buying based on those measurements. Some websites allow you the ability to virtually try on their glasses which is cool as well. Keep in mind your face shape, cheekbones, and jawline as well.

What Do I Pair With My Glasses?

It’s fashion! Do what you want. Pair sunglasses with what you want, and do it confidently.

Make sure to keep up with us for more style content and updates.
