Kappa has long been regarded as one of the premier luxury brands. Becoming popular in the 1980s primarily due to its B-Boy tracksuit, many of the world’s most notable names have been sporting Kappa for decades. The Italian sports brand recently announced its partnership with automotive lifestyle brand and entertainment group Gumball 3000 in honor of the 22nd annual Gumball 3000 rally.

We caught up with Dre Hayes, President of Kappa USA to talk about the longevity of the brand, this collaboration, and what’s in the pipeline for the future.

ONE37pm: Kappa has been thee go-to place for Italian luxury sportswear for decades. What do you attribute the brand’s longevity to?

Hayes: We pride ourselves on being a heritage sportswear brand that simultaneously exists in sport and lifestyle. Kappa has the unique ability to touch a wide range of subcultures across sports, music, art, fashion, dance, automotive, and others by championing inclusivity and diversity.

ONE37pm: Congratulations on this partnership Gumball 3000! How did this come to be?

Hayes: This is actually our third year working with the Gumball team on a collaborative collection to coincide with the rally. We first got involved because the Gumball 3000 is an unorthodox way for us to connect sport and lifestyle.

We are constantly looking for collaborative partnerships that can blend sports and lifestyle culture.  The drivers and fans alike love the collaborative apparel and treat it as memorabilia to commemorate the once-in-a-lifetime experiences each rally boasts.

ONE37pm: How was it working with Bloodydior?

Hayes: Bloodydior was the MVP of the shoot. He was actually a last-minute addition as he happened to be flying into Los Angeles from New York the same day as the shoot and came to set straight off the plane. He's a true pro.

The Kappa x Gumball 3000 apparel collection includes tops, pants, tees, footwear, and accessories available in a vibrant color palette against the black fabric. The collaborative capsule also includes two special edition Carrera eyewear silhouettes designed for the long-distance drive ahead. The Kappa x Gumball 3000 collection pieces will be available for sale online at www.kappa.com starting May 24th with prices ranging from $12-$150.
