The Aristocats History

The Aristocats was released in 1970, is an animated romantic musical comedy produced by Walt Disney Productions and directed by Wolfgang Reitherman. The movie is based on a story written by the two Toms, Tom McGowan and Tom Rowe, and centers around a family of aristocratic cats in 1910’s Paris, and an alley cat allie that helps them after a butler kidnaps them in the attempt to gain his mistress’s fortune, which was set to go to them.

The film featured the voices of actors Phil Harris, Sterling Holloway, Eva Gabor, and more, and was released to positive reviews from both casual viewers and critics alike, drawing in $191 million at the box office on a budget of $4 million.

The Scene Inspiring a Viral Trend

While we don’t want to spoil the movie for anyone that hasn’t seen it yet, we do have to mention that the scene inspiring this current viral TikTok trend. As we said earlier, The Aristocats is about a mother cat named Duchess and her three kittens Berlioz, Marie, and Toulouse, who live in Paris with their Madame Adelaide Bonfamille, and her butler Edgar. Upon overhearing Madame preparing her will with her lawyer (in which she states that her entire fortune will go to her cats and then Edgar when the cats pass away), Edgar plots to eliminate the cats by giving them sleeping pills and leaving them stranded in the country.

As the cats embark on their journey to safely return home, they meet lots of characters along the way, including twin geese Amelia and Abigail. In the video above, you can see the meeting along with the march dance/waddle the entire gang does which leads us to the TikTok trend.
