If you fancy yourself a fan of rap, then you need to know about HDBeenDope. This up-and-coming rapper from Brooklyn is signed to Jay-Z's Roc Nation label and is making a name for himself with his unique style and flow. Just last week, HD stopped by the ONE37pm headquarters in Manhattan to chop it up with our team. Let's take a closer look at HDBeenDope and what makes him one of the most exciting new rappers in the game.
Meet HDBeenDope, One of Brooklyn's Top Up-and-Coming Rappers
HDBeenDope's musical style can best be described as a tasteful mix of old-school and contemporary styles. He draws inspiration from classic rappers, but he also incorporates modern elements into his music. The young talent signed to Hov's label just last month in September, setting the stage for a legendary impact in his hometown of Brooklyn. As he pointed out in our exclusive interview, how many Brooklynites can say they signed to Jay-Z? That's an honor which many desire, yet few can proudly say they've been blessed with. Earlier this month, he dropped off a brand new 5-track EP, What Can They Say. It's heat.
When I was 9, I told my girlfriend's mother at the time that I was gonna be a rapper. So, I always felt it from very young.
In terms of subject matter, HDBeenDope typically raps about personal experiences and observations. He doesn't shy away from controversial topics, but he also isn't afraid to have fun and experiment with his music. Whether he's rapping about serious topics or just having fun with wordplay, HDBeenDope always delivers captivating lyrics. As he nears one million monthly listeners on Spotify, his top performing track, "Byrd," is at over 30 million streams, followed by several multi-million stream songs behind it.
In our interview, HD told us about his most recent project, his come-up thus far, what it's like being signed to Roc Nation, his favorite food spots, songs for first-time HD listeners to tune in to, and much, much more. Equally as enlightening as our interview with HDBeenDope is his extensive catalog of music. Definitely take a listen, and pay close attention, you'll thank us later.
